the development of a mini-project where we were to illustrate chosen phrases or words from a collection of jg ballard short stories.
in the end I chose the word ‘amputation’. I started quite literal, googling people with arms and legs chopped off and looking at medical documentaries/books. no lie, i nearly vomited onto my laptop.
to avoid a 2 girls 1 cup situation, and for the sake of trying something different, i moved away from literally illustrating amputated limbs and thought about objects and vehicles having their limbs amputated, like an aeroplane with one wing missing, a helicopter with no blades, a bicycle with its stabilisers removed. it was such short project that I don’t think it was developed far enough, I still want to do a solid series of them. I don’t really have time right now.
